Lithuania seeks to attract more flights to the seaside resort of Palanga, BNS reports. The Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Economy, and the Klaipeda Region Association (AKR) have agreed to raise public funds for increasing traffic at Palanga International Airport (POU). AKR unites the seven municipalities in the Klaipeda county. The goal is to have direct flights on at least two new routes to and from Palanga. The local municipalities would choose the routes and sign a contract with the air carrier. State airport operator Lietuvos Oro Uostai (LTOU) will draw up a plan for POU’s development and expansion over three years, including through discounts on airport fees. Klaipeda mayor Arvydas Vaitkus said that the region’s businesses needed connections to Frankfurt and Hamburg in Germany and to the Polish capital, Warsaw. Currently, POU offers direct flights to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, London, Oslo, and Riga.
