Lithuania’s opposition Union of Democrats for Lithuania (DSVL) retains its trust in the party chairman, Saulius Skvernelis, DSVL’s deputy chairman, MEP Virginijus Sinkevicius, stated, ELTA reports. Earlier, Lithuania’s Special Investigation Service (STT) searched the homes and offices of Skvernelis and another opposition MP, Kazys Starkevicius, as part of an investigation into large-scale corruption at the State Plant Service (VATZUM). STT will interview both MPs as special witnesses. Sinkevicius noted that no allegations had been made against Skvernelis. At the same time, he assured that DSVL had no tolerance for corruption. Meanwhile, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that he had no doubt that STT had grounds for raiding the offices of the two MPs, ELTA reported. Juozas Olekas, speaker of the Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, said that the situation had caused reputational damage to the parliament.
