Lithuania has proposed an action plan to attract more investments from Taiwan, the Foreign Ministry announced, BNS reports. The plan, which remains a “working draft,” outlines priority sectors and potential projects with a focus on developing Lithuania’s high-tech sector, the ministry said. Asta Skaisgiryte, foreign policy adviser to President Gitanas Nauseda, said that Lithuania could accept much more investments from Taiwan than it does now, BNS reported. At the same time, the government is seeking to restore full diplomatic ties with China, which has exerted pressure on Lithuania following the opening of a Taiwanese de facto embassy in Vilnius, Lietuvos Rytas reports. Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene has said that the opening of the Taiwanese Representative Office had brought “exactly zero benefits from Taiwan” and had damaged relations with China, BNS reported. Meanwhile, Nauseda warned that reopening the debate over the Taiwanese representation could lead to its closure, BNS reported.
