Recent Belarusian actions against Lithuania “could be recognised as terrorism,” Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene stated, BNS reports. She was referring to the launch of smuggler balloons from Belarus into Lithuanian airspace and the detention of Lithuanian trucks in Belarus. The actions endangered aviation security and violated international law, Ruginiene noted, saying that she was prepared to make difficult decisions to ensure public safety. The government has not ruled out national sanctions or closing the border, but was relying on Lithuania’s strategic partners for now, Ruginiene said, LRT reported. Meanwhile, Lithuania’s defence chief, General Raimundas Vaiksnoras, said that existing technology to counter the balloon incursions were either ineffective or prohibitively expensive, BNS reported.
