Lithuania: President, parties urged to stand against antisemitism

Over 150 public figures in Lithuania have signed an appeal to President Gitanas Nauseda and political parties, urging them to reject antisemitic politicians, LRT reports. Earlier, top politicians and Jewish community leaders warned of continuing antisemitism in Lithuania, BNS reported. Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte pointed to antisemitic statements by former MP Remigijus Zemaitaitis, leader of the new far-right opposition party, Dawn of Nemunas. MP Emanuelis Zingeris of the ruling Homeland Union warned of the reappearance of “pro-fascist forces,” noting that that he had received concerned comments from Germany, Israel, and the US. Faina Kukliansky, chairwoman of the Jewish Community of Lithuania (LZB), called on Nauseda to issue a clear condemnation of the antisemitic incitement by some politicians.
