Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry has lodged a formal protest with Belarus over continued “hybrid attacks” and seizure of property of EU citizens and companies, BNS reports. The ministry demanded that Belarus exercise effective control of its airspace and return “unlawfully detained” property, referring to incursions of smuggler balloons into Lithuania and the detention of Lithuanian trucks in Belarus. The ministry noted that Belarus had rejected Finland’s offer to mediate in the dispute. Meanwhile, the Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association (LINAVA) organised a protest of truckers in the centre of Vilnius, accusing the government of failing to resolve the issue, ELTA reported. The truckers demanded compensation for losses. However, Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene stated that the government was not considering compensating Lithuanian carriers, insisting that Belarus was responsible for the situation, BNS reported.
