Lithuania: Unknown chemicals found in Public Security Service possession

A significant quantity of chemicals of unknown origin was discovered during an inspection of the property of Lithuania’s Public Security Service (VST) in Kaunas, according to the Ministry of Interior, DELFI reports. Arunas Paulauskas, deputy head of VST, said that the chemicals were originally transferred to VST by the Kaunas Prosecutor’s Office for storage and subsequent destruction in 2000. The chemicals were initially presented as material evidence during an investigation into an illegal drug possession case. The chemicals included various reagents used in the production of narcotics. VST asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to investigate those responsible for failure to destroy the chemicals.
