Russian President Vladimir Putin was wrong when he thought that the war in Ukraine would break NATO unity, US President Joe Biden said in a speech at Lithuania’s Vilnius University on 12 July 2023, LETA reports. “Putin thought that democratic leaders would be weak, but he thought wrong,” Biden stated. He assured that the US would defend freedom, noting that the Baltic States knew better than anyone the “transformational power of freedom.” The US President noted that the Baltic Way, not the Berlin Wall, became the symbol for Europe’s future. Speaking on the war in Ukraine, Biden vowed that the US would “stand for liberty and freedom today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes.” He stressed that the war in Ukraine should end on “just terms.”
