Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers have agreed to help step up international support for Moldova after Russia’s state-owned energy corporation, Gazprom, stopped gas supplies to the country, ERR reports. In a joint statement, the eight ministers said that they would work with the European Commission and other key partners to help Moldova. The ministers said that Gazprom’s decision to stop gas supplies was aimed at undermining Moldova’s stability. Gazprom claims that Moldova’s gas distributor, Moldovagaz, has failed to meet its contractual obligations, BNS reported. Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that the situation was another example of Russia weaponising the dependence of other countries on gas supplies. He called on Europe to continue efforts to stop importing fossil fuel from Russia.
