The cargo turnover of Latvian ports totalled 17.9mn tonnes in the first half of 2024, which was 11.4% less than in the same period of 2023, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSP), LSM reports. The total volume of outgoing freight amounted to 13.5mn tonnes (up 2.3%) and incoming freight to 4.4mn tonnes (down 37.3%). The Freeport of Riga handled 8.9mn tonnes of cargo, which was down 7.8% from 9.6mn tonnes a year earlier. The Freeport of Ventspils reported a cargo turnover of 3.9mn tonnes, which was down 31.7% from 5.7mn tonnes. Meanwhile, the Port of Liepaja handled 3.7mn tonnes of freight, which was up 2.6% from 3.6mn tonnes in the first half of 2023. The overall cargo turnover of Latvia’s small ports amounted to 1.4mn tonnes, which was up 13.6% from 1.3mn tonnes a year earlier.
