The Lithuanian fertiliser producer, Achema, may begin producing explosives, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas announced, BNS reports. He was speaking after a meeting with representatives of Achema’s management. Earlier, Vidmantas Janulevicius, president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists (LPK), suggested converting some of the country’s large chemical plants to the production of explosives. Achema announced in December 2024 that it would carry out a feasibility study and market analysis on such a project. Meanwhile, MP Giedrimas Jeglinskas, chairman of the national security and defence committee of the Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, argued that it would be logical for Achema to be at least partially nationalised. Paluckas said that he had not discussed possible nationalisation in his meeting with the company’s management, however.
