Lithuania: Schools in Vilnius receive bomb threats in Russian

Schools in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, have received multiple bomb threats in Russian at the start of the new school year on 2 September 2024, BNS reports. Police have so far received 26 reports of such threats sent to schools by email. None of the threats have proved to be real. Hundreds of bomb threats in Russian have been sent to schools across Latvia as well. In October 2023, thousands of hoax bomb threats were sent to schools, kindergartens, and municipal buildings in all three Baltic States. At the time, Lithuania’s State Security Department (VSD) assessed that the coordinated attack was conducted by “hostile states” and aimed at causing panic and chaos.
