Estonia: Police confiscate copy of controversial WW2 monument

Police in Estonia have confiscated a copy of a controversial monument in Lihula commemorating Estonians who fought against the Soviet Union in World War II, ERR reports. The new monument was erected for an event to mark the 20th anniversary of the removal of the original monument in 2004. Police removed the new monument for assessment whether it violates a ban on the public display of prohibited symbols that can be associated with Nazi Germany. Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets told ERR that such symbols may lead to tensions in society, which can then be exploited to create conflict.
