Candidates for the new position of the government’s special representative in Estonia’s Ida-Virumaa county include Peep Peterson and Jaanus Purga, ERR reports. Peterson, member of the Social Democratic Party, is former minister of health and labour and former chairman of the Confederation of Estonian Trade Unions (EAKL). Jaan-Hendrik Toomel, current head of EAKL, said that the Estonian Employers Confederation (ETK) supported Peterson’s candidacy as well. Purga is green transition activist and former development director at shale oil producer Viru Keemia Grupp. He confirmed his interest in the position to local daily Põhjarannik. The government is expected to make a decision on the special representative on 13 July 2023.
