The Baltic States are disappointed that the UK failed to invite them to a summit of European leaders on the war in Ukraine on 2 March 2025, Sky News reports. A diplomatic source said that the Baltic States were “truly unhappy,” noting that Russia’s leaders and the Baltic public would assess that the US, UK, and France were “selling out” the Baltic States. Marko Mihkelson, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, argued that excluding the Baltic States from the summit was a diplomatic misstep, adding that “the optics on this do not look very good,” ERR reported. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has invited more than a dozen European leaders to London to discuss the war in Ukraine and European security. Starmer will hold conference calls with Baltic leaders before the summit. Frederikas Jansonas, chief adviser to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, said that Starmer would inform the Baltic States first of his meetings with US officials, BNS reported.
