Latvia: Russian propagandist admits destabilising Lithuania

The former editor of Russian propaganda channel Sputnik Lithuania, Marat Kasem (Marats Kasems), admitted that his job was to destabilise Lithuania, LSM reported. Kasem said that his work had nothing to do with journalism, but was pure propaganda under the direction of Russia’s presidential administration. He was recently released on bail from detention in Latvia. Kasem was expelled from Lithuania in May 2019 but was detained in Latvia in January 2023 on his return from Russia. He is suspected of providing support to a sanctioned entity. Kasem, who is a Latvian citizen, said that he did not want to return to Russia.
