Lithuania: Former energy minister criticises Estonia, Latvia on synchronisation project

Estonia and Latvia have put their national interests ahead of regional projects in regard to the synchronisation of the Baltic power grids with the contintental European system, Lithuania’s former energy minister, Arvydas Sekmokas, stated. Speaking in an interview with LRT, Sekmokas noted that Estonia seemed to want to postpone the synchronisation project to 2025 and possibly beyond, while Latvia was inclined to support Estonia. Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda urged Latvia to speed up the synchronisation project, while Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said that it was necessary to find the most economically and technically advantageous solution for each country. Sekmokas described Latvia’s position as a “diplomatic maneuver.”
