A Russian attack on NATO countries was “practically impossible” in the near future, Lithuania’s defence chief, Valdemaras Rupsys, stated, BNS reports. Speaking in an interview with Ziniu Radijas, Rupsys warned that diverging political statements and military assessments on the Russian threat created “some confusion,” which could scare the public. His assessment was that the possibility or probability of a war with Russia in 2024 or 2025 was “extremely low” due to the current capabilities of the Russian army. At the same time, Rupsys cautioned that conditions could change, and urged NATO countries to invest in deterrence. The Lithuanian Armed Forces (LGP) needed infantry fighting vehicles, tanks, and air defence systems, he listed.
