The US failed to invite several NATO allies, including the three Baltic States, to a working group meeting in Poland to discuss the future of the alliance, Politico reported. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal confirmed that Estonia had not received an invitation, but stressed that the gathering was not an official NATO meeting, ERR reported. Defence Minister Martin Herem assured that Nordic countries would stand up for Estonian interests at the meeting. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda pointed out that the meeting was of the so-called Bergen Group, which does not include the Baltic States, LRT reported. Nauseda and Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas both urged not to overstate the importance of the meeting in Poland, BNS reported. Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs noted that the US and the Baltic States regularly discussed NATO’s future in various other formats, LETA reported.
