Baltic: Russia may target Baltics, Poland: Lithuanian minister

Russia may launch attacks against the Baltic States or Poland, Lithuania’s Defence Minister, Robertas Kaunas, warned, LRT reports. Being unable to win the war against Ukraine, Russia may target the Baltic States or Poland to secure “some kind of new win,” Kaunas suggested. He said that Lithuania was drawing up additional contingency plans to respond to possible Russian attacks. Also, authorities have reinforced security of critical infrastructure and strategic sites. Meanwhile, Lithuania’s defence chief, General Raimundas Vaiksnoras, said that there was currently no visible threat of conventional Russian military aggression against the Baltic States. However, he did not rule out military provocations. Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur said that there was nothing new to report on possible Russian provocations, The Baltic Sentinel reported. Estonian MEP Riho Terras suggested that the Lithuanian and Polish warnings about Russian provocations were part of the domestic political debate.
