Lithuanian military intelligence has information suggesting that Russia may use drones made in Ukraine to carry out attacks against critical infrastructure targets in the Baltic region, LRT reports. Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas said that the intelligence reports indicated that Russia was assessing the possibility of conducting such false-flag attacks, but that there was no evidence that a decision had been made to carry them out. He did not provide details about potential targets or the timing of any possible attacks.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius said that while a “certain level of threat” existed, the overall threat level had not changed dramatically, BNS reported. He suggested that the war in Ukraine was approaching its climax and that acts of “desperation,” such as false-flag attacks, were therefore possible in the Baltic region and Poland. At the same time, he stressed that any public statements about security threats must be carefully considered to avoid alarming the public unnecessarily.
