Latvia’s Russian-speakers have a markedly more negative attitude towards the EU and NATO than ethnic Latvians, according to a survey conducted by the Riga-based association, Russian Voice for Latvia, LSM reports. The survey showed that, on a scale of 1 to 10, Latvians rated their attitude towards the EU at 8.4 points, while the average attitude of Russians was 7 points. Also, Latvians rated NATO at 8.7 points and Russians at just 5.7 points. Moreover, Latvian respondents said that Ukraine should receive more help, while Russian-speakers mostly said that the current level of aid provided to Ukraine was too much. Despite the differences in opinion, the attitudes of both groups towards each other were mostly positive, however. The average score for Latvian attitudes towards Russian-speakers was 7.3 points, while Russians rated their assessment of Latvians at 8.5 points, the survey showed.
