Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs criticised Interior Minister Janis Dombrava for a letter that the minister had sent to Spain over the recent border crisis in the Spanish exclave of Ceuta, LETA reported. According to LTV, Spanish officials were irritated with Dombrava’s letter, which they found patronising and arrogant, LSM reported. Spanish officials expressed disappointment that Latvia was criticising Spain while Spanish troops were defending Latvian territory. Kulbergs said that Dombrava’s initiative sometimes went “a little too far,” and he urged Dombrava to coordinate future correspondence with foreign governments with the Foreign Ministry. Meanwhile, President Edgars Rinkevics pointed out that Latvia was represented in foreign policy by the president, prime minister, and foreign minister. He assured that Latvia stood in solidarity with Spain and was grateful for its contribution to Latvia’s defence.
