Residents of Bauska municipality in southern Latvia are worried about plans to build a large wind farm in Lithuania near the Skaistkalne sinkhole zone, LSM reports. Anita Rozentale, editor of the regional newspaper, Bauskas Dzive, said that the wind farm would be located only 1.2 km from the sinkhole area. There is a sinkhole zone in the area in Lithuania where the wind farm will be located as well, Rozentale pointed out. She noted that environmental experts have warned that the foundations of large wind turbines may impact sinkholes. The municipality of Bauska has requested information about the environmental impact assessment (EIA) on the wind farm, which will have 35 wind turbines. The project’s developer is Birzu Vejas.
