Latvia: Third of drivers admit drunk driving

A third of Latvian car drivers admit driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a new Norstat survey carried out in April 2026, LETA reported. The survey showed that 32% of respondents admitted to drinking and driving sometimes, which was up from 31% a year earlier. As many as 42% (41%) of men and 19% (20%) of women said that they had driven while intoxicated. The share of respondents who had driven with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of 0.5 per mille stood at 6% (5%), including 10% among men and 2% among women. Latvian police stopped 61 drunk drivers over the Midsummer holidays, LETA reported.
