Lithuania: Government halves bus, train ticket prices

The Lithuanian government has introduced a 50% discount on domestic train tickets and will introduce a similar discount on intercity bus fares until the end of 2026, BNS reports. The purpose is to encourage the use of public transport amid the rise in fuel prices. Transport Minister Juras Taminskas said that the additional discount would apply to all passengers, including those already entitled to discounts, ELTA reported. The state-owned passenger train operator, LTG Link, expects the new discount to attract around 45,000 more passengers. The state will compensate operators for revenue lost due to the measure, which will cost an estimated EUR 6mn. The government introduced a similar fare discount in April-May 2026.
