The three Baltic States as well as Poland and Romania have expressed readiness to host more US troops, Politico reports. Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that he would withdraw 5,000 or more US military personnel from Germany. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced that Lithuania was prepared to host as many allied troops as it can, insisting that the US troops pulled from Germany must remain in Europe, BNS reported. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said that relocating some US troops to countries bordering Russia and Belarus would strengthen NATO’s deterrence posture, BNS reported. Currently, there are more than 1,000 US troops stationed in Lithuania. Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze also said that Latvia would welcome more US troops, Bloomberg reported. She said that Latvia was having conversations with the US on such a possibility. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Estonian Defence Ministry said that Estonia supported “an expanded US footprint to ensure robust deterrence and defence throughout the Baltics.”
