Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, met with his Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts on a working visit to Riga and Vilnius, LSM reports. The foreign ministers discussed bilateral cooperation, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East. Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze expressed hope for more permanent solutions in Israel’s relations with Lebanon and Iran and for a ceasefire in Gaza. She said that reducing Iran’s influence in the Middle East would contribute to greater stability and security in the region. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys said that Lithuania continued to support Israel’s pressure on Iran, ELTA reports. He stressed that Iran’s nuclear programme was a threat for the entire world. Sa’ar insisted that Israel was Europe’s only true ally in the Middle East. He said that the war with Iran was a “global war between the free world and the axis of radical evil,” which was “supported by an authoritarian axis” of China, Russia, and North Korea.
