The Baltic joint venture, RB Rail, has submitted a new application to the European Commission for an additional EUR 357.5mn in funding from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the Rail Baltica railway project, BNS reports. The European Commission and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency are expected to announce their decisions on the application by spring 2027. So far, RB Rail has received around EUR 4.5bn of EU funds under altogether 12 CEF grant agreements. Meanwhile, RB Rail CEO Marko Kivila warned that delayed and inconsistent political decisions in Latvia threatened Rail Baltica’s progress, LETA reported. He pointed out that Latvia’s delays could create additional expenses and postpone the return on investments made in Estonia and Lithuania. He suggested that Latvia follow Estonia’s example in addressing the challenges related to the project’s financing.
