The Baltic and Polish transmission system operators (TSO) plan to apply for around EUR 600mn of EU funding for infrastructure investments from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), ERR reports. The funds would be divided equally between the four companies. The companies would use the funds for investments in protecting their critical energy infrastructure. Kalle Kilk, CEO of Estonia’s Elering, noted that obtaining CEF funding was not certain. He does not expect Elering to receive support from the national state budget for the planned security upgrades, either. Some of the funds would come from EU aid and congestion fees, while the remainder would have to be financed from grid fees, Kilk stated.
