Estonia: Court stops extradition of sanctions violator to US

Estonia’s Tallinn Administrative Court has overturned the government’s decision to extradite Estonian citizen Andrei Sevljakov to the US, ERR reports. The court pointed to concerns that detention conditions in US prisons may not meet humane standards. The court instructed the government to obtain assurances from the US that Sevljakov’s prison conditions will not be inhumane. Sevljakov was arrested in March 2023. US authorities have charged him for evading sanctions by supplying prohibited US-made electronics through shell companies to Russia. US authorities added Sevljakov to their list of individuals posing a threat to US national security in 2012.
