Estonia: Estonia 200 not to merge with Greens

Estonia’s liberal coalition party, Estonia 200 (E200), will not merge with the small non-parliamentary party, Estonian Greens (EER), ERR reports. E200’s council met to discuss the issue on 18 October 2026. E200 chief spokesman Johannes Merilai said that a merger would add nothing to E200’s core identity. Also, he noted that EER’s policies differed from E200.

Marti Soosaar, chairman of EER’s council, lamented E200’s decision, noting that the party would find it difficult to run a full list of candidates in the next parliamentary elections in March 2027, ERR reported. The two parties had held consultations on a possible merger, ERR reported. E200’s council did not decide whether the party would take part in the spring elections.

In the latest weekly Norstat poll for the Institute of Societal Studies, E200’s support stood at just 1.2%, which is well below the country’s 5% electoral threshold. Several leading E200 representatives have either defected to other parties or announced their intention not to run in the March elections. Currently, the party has 12 MPs in the Estonian parliament.
