Estonia: Ex-PM, MP Siim Kallas to step down from parliament

Long-time Estonian MP, former prime minister Siim Kallas will step down from the parliament, the Riigikogu, ERR reports. Timo Suslov, secretary general of the Estonian Reform Party, said that Kallas, 75, was stepping down due to health reasons. His seat in the Riigikogu will now be taken up by Reform’s Jüri Jaanson. Kallas said that he was finishing a book on the history of liberalism. He is Reform’s co-founder and honorary chair. Kallas served, among others, as governor of the Bank of Estonia, MP, foreign minister, finance minister, prime minister, EU commissioner, and mayor. He is the father of Estonia’s former prime minister, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
