The wealth of Estonian households has increased significantly, while wealth inequality has remained relatively stable over 2013-2024, according to the Bank of Estonia and Statistics Estonia, ERR reports. The household finance and consumption surveys showed that the median household had net wealth of EUR 103,300 in 2024, which was up more than double from EUR 43,300 in 2013. Estonia’s Gini coefficient stood at 0.66 in 2024. The wealthiest 5% of households own 40% of total net wealth. The share of financial assets in household net wealth has risen from 10% in 2013 to 20% in 2024. More than 50% of households have debt, and the number of households with housing loans has increased. The debt burden has decreased, however. Outstanding loans amounted to 11% of the total asset value of households with debt, while loan payments accounted for 7% of monthly gross income in 2024.
