The EU should ban the entry of over a million Russians for their involvement in the war of aggression against Ukraine, Estonia’s Interior Minister, Igor Taro, stated, BNS reports. Estonia has thus far added thousands of names to the list of individuals barred from entering the Schengen Area. Speaking in an interview with Kuku Raadio, Taro said that it was “completely unacceptable” that the number of Schengen visas issued to Russians was increasing. At a recent meeting of EU justice and home affairs ministers, Taro stressed that restrictive measures must be uniform and binding across the EU, BNS reported. He warned that Russian combatants posed a long-term threat to European security. Meanwhile, Taro said that Estonia’s border with Russia would remain open so long as there was no immediate threat from Russia, ERR reported. He noted that sanctions and restrictions had reduced traffic across the border by 90%. Opposition and media have called on the government to close the border.
