Estonia: Parliamentary committee chair criticises China visit by MPs

Estonian MPs visiting China should not have allowed China to pay for their travel costs, Marko Mihkelson, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, stated, ERR reports. Pointing to China’s support for Russia’s war against Ukraine and opposition to NATO enlargement, Mihkelson said that it would have been better if all of the expenses of the trip had been paid by Estonia. He expects “full disclosure” from members of the six-member delegation on what was discussed during their visit. While noting that MPs should not contradict Estonia’s foreign policy priorities, Mihkelson added that he would not overstate the importance of the visit.
