A group of 30 public figures in Estonia have nominated Indrek Laul, CEO of Estonia Piano Factory, for president, ERR reports. The group behind Laul’s candidacy, which includes prominent entrepreneurs, academics, and cultural figures, stressed the need to bring together “knowledge, culture, and entrepreneurship.” Laul has been nominated for president twice before. Urmas Reinsalu, chairman of the national-conservative opposition party, Fatherland, said that his party was open to Laul’s possible candidacy. Meanwhile, Lauri Läänemets, chairman of the opposition Social Democratic Party, said that his party still preferred Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madise for president. The Estonian parliament, the Riigikogu, will vote on the next president on 2 September 2026.
