Latvia’s Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Welfare have proposed reducing the amount that employers pay for sick leave, LSM reports. Trade unions are strongly opposed to the proposal. Egils Baldzens, chairman of the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS), threatened significant labour action if the proposal proceeds.
