Latvia: Four parties agree on coalition programme, composition

Four political groups in Latvia have agreed on the programme of a new coalition government and the distribution of ministerial portfolios, LSM reports. The United List’s MP, Andris Kulbergs, will serve as prime minister, and the party alliance will also hold the posts of ministers of finance, justice, and regional development. Outgoing Prime Minister Evika Silina’s alliance, New Unity, will hold the positions of ministers of foreign affairs, defence, transport, and health. New Unity’s current coalition partner, the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), will hold the post of speaker of the Latvian parliament, the Saeima, and the ministerial portfolios in charge of the economy, welfare, and agriculture. Finally, the National Alliance will hold the posts of ministers of education, culture, interior, and climate and energy. Kulbergs will present the programme and composition of the new coalition to President Edgars Rinkevics on 25 May 2026.
