Latvia: Government fails to pay Rail Baltica developer

The Latvian government has failed to pay nearly EUR 1mn to the Baltic joint venture, RB Rail, which coordinates the development of the Rail Baltica railway project, LSM reports. A member of RB Rail’s board told TV24 that the company’s staff were currently being paid from Estonian and Lithuanian money. The three Baltic States have agreed to contribute a proportional amount of budget funds to RB Rail each year to cover the company’s administrative costs. However, the Latvian government has failed to pay more than EUR 900,000 in 2024. Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina did not respond to requests for comment on the report.
