Estonia: Minister proposes partial privatisation of Eesti Post

Estonia’s Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, Piret Hartman, has proposed privatising part of the state-owned postal services provider, Eesti Post, ERR reports. She said that the earliest date for a possible IPO could be in 2027. The state would nevertheless retain majority ownership of the company, the minister assured. Eesti Post needs additional capital to expand, Hartman explained. The company wants to expand its parcel business in and outside the Baltic region. Eesti Post’s losses doubled in the first three quarters of 2024, due in large part to the provision of universal postal services, ERR reported. The company hopes that the government will establish a universal postal tariff that is cost-based, ERR reports.
