The Latvian government has extended a ban on chartered bus tours to Russia and Belarus for one year until 31 October 2027, LSM reports. The ban applies to all bus operators, regardless of the country of registration of the vehicle. The government pointed to the need to ensure the safety of residents and the risk of intelligence gathering and recruitment. In addition, the Ministry of Transport has drafted amendments to ban regular bus services to Russia and Belarus as of 10 January 2027. Earlier, the Latvian parliament, the Saeima, passed urgent amendments prohibiting members of municipal councils from travelling to Russia and Belarus, LETA reported. Several categories of state officials, including MPs, were already banned from travelling to Russia and Belarus because of security risks.
