Lithuania: President plugs lower level ties with China

Restoring Lithuania’s full diplomatic relations with communist China should not depend on the name of the Taiwanese Representative Office in Vilnius, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated, BNS reports. Speaking in an interview with Ziniu Radijas, Nauseda suggested restoring diplomatic representation on a lower level, such as deputy head of mission rather than ambassadorial level, first. He said that meetings in November 2026 could clarify the prospects for further negotiations with China. Earlier, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius hoped for a breakthrough in the negotiations by the end of 2026, BNS reported.
