The Latvian parliament, the Saeima, has approved a new four-party coalition government led by Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs of the United List, LSM reports. Altogether 66 MPs voted for and 25 against the new right-of-centre government. Besides the United List, the new ruling coalition includes the National Alliance, New Unity, and the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS). The government’s key priorities include national security, safeguarding secure elections, ensuring budget stability and efficient governance, combating cartels and corruption, and strengthening economic development and competitiveness, Baltic News reported. Kulbergs stated that his government would take “difficult and unpopular decisions.” Meanwhile, President Edgars Rinkevics predicted that decision-making in the four-party coalition would not be easy during the pre-election period, suggesting the possibility of many disputes, LETA reported.
