Latvia: PM’s party wins by landslide: exit poll

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs and his United List alliance may win the country’s parliamentary elections by a landslide, according to pollster SKDS’s exit poll, LSM reports. The poll shows that United List may win 35.6% of the votes, far ahead of all other parties. The far-right populist Latvia First would be second with 11.3%, followed by the social-democratic Progressives with 11.1%, and the pro-Russian Sovereign Power with 10.8%. The nationalist National Alliance would be fifth with 8.7%, while the centre-right New Unity would have 6.7% of the vote. The regionalist Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) and all other political groups would fail to cross the 5% electoral threshold. Voter turnout was estimated at under 51%, which would be down from 59% in the previous parliamentary elections in 2022 and the lowest since the restoration of the country’s independence in 1990, LETA reported.
