Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, Kestutis Budrys, has assured Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius that he has no intention to run for president, ELTA reports. Speaking in an interview with 15min, Budrys said that public speculation about his possible presidential bid had made both his work and his life more difficult, casting a shadow on his ministerial actions in foreign policy. He said that the speculation began as far back as in autumn 2025. MP Zygimantas Pavilionis of the conservative opposition Homeland Union, who serves as deputy chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, suggested that Budrys was “running a personal election campaign in Washington,” Lietuvos Rytas reported. Meanwhile, Sinkevicius, who leads the ruling Social Democratic Party of Lithuania, has said that he could consider running for president after his current term in office ends. MP Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, leader of the opposition Lithuanian Liberal Movement, has not ruled out a presidential bid, either.
