Latvia’s Prosecutor General’s Office (LRP) has opened an investigation into national air carrier airBaltic’s finances, following a request from Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, LETA reports. The investigation will assess whether decisions taken in relation to airBaltic’s financial situation have been in compliance with the law. LRP carried out a similar investigation in late 2024, but found no irregularities. In the first quarter of 2026, airBaltic reported a loss of EUR 70.064mn, which was up 2.4 times from a year earlier. Kulbergs insisted that airBaltic cannot keep relying on state support to continue operations, LETA reported. The company needs to make clear whether it can operate on its own or not, he stated.
