Latvia: Russian education certificates soon not recognised

The Latvian parliament, the Saeima, is discussing proposed amendments that would stop recognising Russian education certificates obtained after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, LSM reports. Under the amendments proposed by the opposition National Alliance, education certificates issued in Russia after 24 February 2022 would no longer be recognised in Latvia. National Alliance MPs pointed out that Latvia’s State Security Service (VDD) has repeatedly called on people not to go study in Russia, warning that doing so entails national security risks. The parliamentary education, culture, and science committee approved the amendments with 68 votes in favour and 10 against.
