Lithuania: Lithuanian, Polish presidents to deepen defence ties

The presidents of Lithuania and Poland, Gitanas Nauseda and Andrzej Duda, have signed a declaration on deepening bilateral defence and security ties, Baltic News Network reports. The presidents made the declaration during Nauseda’s official visit to Poland. At the same time, Lithuanian and Polish officials signed cooperation agreements on cyber security and defence industry, TVP reports. Duda stressed the need to produce artillery ammunition, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and drones as “key elements of modern warfare.”

The two presidents stressed the implementation of NATO defence plans, expressed strong support for Ukraine’s and Moldova’s Euro-Atlantic integration, and pledged to rally international support for Ukraine in the war against Russia. During their meeting in Warsaw, the presidents also discussed the possibility of intercepting Russian missiles in Ukrainian airspace, Polskie Radio reported. Other issues included regional security, bilateral defence cooperation, support for Ukraine, and joint infrastructure projects, ELTA reports.
