The Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, has stripped former prime minister Gintautas Paluckas of his parliamentary immunity, BNS reports. The decision allows prosecutors to investigate Paluckas for alleged illicit enrichment and abuse of office. Paluckas and his wife, Ilma Palucke, are suspected of having acquired cars, real estate, and securities worth nearly EUR 344,600 with income of unclear origin in 2010-2024. Earlier, Paluckas stepped down as prime minister and chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP), but refused to resign from parliament as demanded by President Gitanas Nauseda, BNS reported. Nevertheless, LSDP’s new leader, Mindaugas Sinkevicius, revealed that Paluckas had indicated in private conversations that he no longer saw any future in politics.
